Amanda Palmer Tarot: The Empress

Recently I was asked to contribute an image to the Amanda Palmer Tarot, soon to launch as a Kickstarter campaign. The card I was offered was The Empress, and I have permission to post it, so here she is! Mixing up my Tudor obsession with various esoteric symbolism was too good a chance to miss, and also being a bit of a fan of The Dresden Dolls helped! And yes, I've been a bit cheeky as well...

I love Amanda Palmer and I love tarot, so I'm thrilled to know there is a deck coming out with her as muse! Your rendition of AP as The Empress is superb. I especially love the women's symbol handle on her dagger and the pomegranates on her stockings. Pomegranates are an ancient Goddess symbol and of course The Empress is really a coded representation of the Divine Feminine.

Thank you Debra. We were asked to bear in mind the Rider Waite deck when doing this, so there are elements from that included. I've interpreted those in my own way, eg: the pomegranate stockings etc. But I also wanted to show the feminine playing with the masculine. Ie: the cheeky mic stand and the mix of male and female Tudor clothes. I also show her (instead of on a literal throne), sitting high above the world, the throne being more metaphorical. There are other bits and bobs as well... :)
