Darkrising: The Art of Aly Fell

Well, 'the book' is HERE! I just took delivery of 8 boxes of 'DARKRISING: The Art of Aly Fell'. Never a bad thing! This is my first collection of personal work, and I am enormously grateful to SQP Publishing for offering me this opportunity.

48 pages, soft-cover, with dozens of images, and even a pic of my ugly mug in the introduction! You can buy it by following the link on the left hand column of the blog, or alternatively clicking HERE. (It takes you to the same place on my website either way).

Hint hint... nearly Christmas... ahem... cough...

Brum Brum Brum

I'll be here this Saturday the 24th November: The Alternative and Burlesque Fair in Birmingham. The usual printy goodness, and fingers crossed 'The Book' may even have arrived, but I won't hold my breath (because it could lead to asphyxiation and is generally a bad idea unless swimming underwater, when it's generally considered a good idea).

Bare November Days

Decided today was a day for 'me', so finished this off: another slightly cynical young woman wandering round a wood with twigs and leaves in her hair.

Essentially playing with textures and various brushes on that long vertical composition I seem to like so much... I think it's finished, I may look at it tomorrow and see the most obvious of mistakes!

Twig brushes were called "Room122_Winter Branches" from site that supplies free brushes.

Yes that is a muff.

By the way, this is the fantastic poem that inspired the title, if ever there was a more Autumny poem!

My November Guest

by Robert Frost

MY Sorrow, when she’s here with me,
Thinks these dark days of autumn rain
Are beautiful as days can be;
She loves the bare, the withered tree;
She walks the sodden pasture lane.
Her pleasure will not let me stay.
She talks and I am fain to list:
She’s glad the birds are gone away,
She’s glad her simple worsted gray
Is silver now with clinging mist.
The desolate, deserted trees,
The faded earth, the heavy sky,
The beauties she so truly sees,
She thinks I have no eye for these,
And vexes me for reason why.
Not yesterday I learned to know
The love of bare November days
Before the coming of the snow,
But it were vain to tell her so,
And they are better for her praise.

Jingle Belles Pin-Up Showcase

For one night only I'll be part of an exhibition at the Resistance Gallery In Bethnal Green, London. I shall have about 8 to 10 images on display, including a new piece. It would be great to see some lovely Londoners turn up to say "'Allo guv!"

Thursday 6th December, 7pm - 12pm

Jingle Belles: Pin-Up Showcase is a group show of contemporary UK based artists and illustrators all working in the pin-up genre. Appearing at the show will be work from:
Philip Borg (The Pin-Up Project)
Aly Fell
Linda & Darren Jackson (Darlin Design)
John Maybury (Spacebabe113)
Robert Nazeby Herzig
Andrew Hickinbottom

Covering a range of styles, sizes and media, their work represents the many ways in which this classic genre is being re-interpreted for a modern audience. With both original work and prints in various sizes, this is a perfect opportunity to buy some unique art in the run up to Christmas. The show on the 6th of December is open to the public, admission is free and it runs from 7pm to midnight. We hope to see you there!

Popped out to the post office this morning to collect a missed delivery, and it was THE book! :) My first personal collection. It will be available soon, these are just the advance copies for my own personal perusal. Thanks to SQP, Bob and Sal for this!
